Federal and State DOT Inspections
Department of Transportation (DOT) inspections are important because they directly prevent roadside accidents, ensure legal compliance, and reduce costly fleet operational downtime. Enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), these examinations guarantee that commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) and their drivers remain safe to operate on public highways.
Annual Inspection – §396.17
Every commercial vehicle, including each segment of a combination vehicle requires periodic inspection that must be performed at least once every 12 months. At a minimum, inspections must include all items enumerated in the Minimum Periodic Inspection Standards, Appendix G to Subchapter B of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
